낙천적이며 맑고 차분한 분위기  부드럽고 원만한 대상(對象)의 표현, 푸근하고 안온한 느낌의 발색, 꽃으로 말하고 느끼며 듣는 화평和平의 세계, 그리하여 생동감이 있고 생명력이 넘치는 박만수의 그림은 항상 우리를 즐겁게 해준다. 그의 조형(造形)은 날카롭기 보다는 차라리 한국적 부드러움의 정겨운 빛깔이라 해야 할 것이다. 무등산이 모나지 않고 둥그스름한 모습으로 늘 우리의 가슴에 자리하고 있듯 그의 인간적 애정의 눈으로 투시해 내는 대상은 언제나 맑고 깨끗한 빛과의 조응(照應)으로 우리의 가슴을 흔들어 놓기에 부족함이 없다. 그가 선호하는 소재들이 꽃과 여인, 잊혀져 가는 한국적 풍물들인 것만 보아도 그의 관심꺼리가 무엇인가를 짐작 하게 한다. 자연과 인간 사이에서 항상 우리들의 이야기로 한국적 삶의 모습을 찾고자 하는 것이 그의 작품의 주된 모티브이다. 그래서 늘 우리의 숨소리를 담는 화폭을 이루면서 온화한 내적 리듬으로 우리에게 따뜻한 정을 느끼게 해 준다.  사실주의에 바탕을 둔 그러나 때때로 부분 생략법으로 과감하게 군더더기를 잘라내면서 단순화시키기도 하는 경쾌감과 함께 생기 있는 독특한 열기의 발색, 그리고 끈끈한 붓자국은 단순한 사실의 재현이 아니라 바로 우리가 희구하는 가장 한국적인 숨소리의 구현이 아닐 수 없다. 특히 근래에 즐겨 다루는 장미와 모란, 능소화, 동백 등의 꽃과 꽃무더기를 통한 해조(議調)의 미와 눈부시고 강렬한 색조, 조야(粗野)하지 않는 세련미, 시류(時流)에 빠지지 않는 정직성, 인간적 애정으로 투시해 내는 마치 시와 그림의 교직(交織)같은 그의 맑고 아름다운 회화세계는 참으로 풋풋한 미감을 주면서 아울러 풍요와 만족, 생명과 자연스러움을 우리에게 새롭게 안겨주고 있다. 소재 대상에 대한 치밀한 관찰과 낙천적이며 밝고 차분한 분위기가 특히 우리를 압도하고 있다. ■ 전 원 범_시인, 광주교육대 명예교수 Sunny, Pure, and Placid Disposition  Man soo Park's paintings make one feel cheerful through the soft and amicable expression of objects and warm and peaceful coloration. It is a peaceful world where the painter speaks, feels, and listens with flowers that are so vivid and full of vitality.  Their shaping looks affectionate with Korean mildness rather than being sharp. The artist's eyes penetrated objects with his humanistic affection, which corresponds with the lights ever clear and clean enough to move the hearts of men. His favorite subject, such as flowers, women, and old Korean scenes lead one to understand what the artist's interests are. His work's major theme is to capture scenes of Korean day to day life with the usual stories that are created between nature and humanity. He paints the very breath of the people into the scenes, which helps one feel the warmth of the natural rhythm. His paintings are based on realism but sometimes there is a ellipsis with a drastic removal of redundancy. Such simplicity makes the viewer burn with the fever caused by the paints' cheerfulness and coloration. The thick brush strokes are not merely reproducing an image but a representation of the very essence of the Korea people and what they pursue. The artist's particular selection of flowers he includes in his works represents harmony, beauty, and strong hues. The roses, peonies, trumpet creepers and camellias are the flowers that the artist favors. They all have strong hues and are beautiful without being overly sophisticated. The artist blends poetry and pictures through his works and makes his vision clear in the paintings. It is in all its naturalness. 소리보기 天符經 ​ 먼 옛날 천부경의 이념 아래 어울려 연구하고 나누는 문화가 있었습니다. 그 후 천여 년 전 한반도에서 신라 시대 최치원 선생께서 현재 쓰이고 있는 한자로 형상화하여 지금까지 전해 내려오고 있습니다. 천부경 81자 안에 유교, 불교, 선도를 아우르는 사상과 철학이 담겨있습니다. 삶 속에서 사람이 주체로서 자연과 하나 되어 사랑을 바탕으로 몸과 마음과 정신이 균형을 이루어 조화롭게 밝혀 나감입니다. 사람이 근본이라 사람의 소중함을 일깨우고 표현하고 나누며, 모든 존재하는 것들과 하나임을 아는 삶이 천부경의 진리입니다. ■ 장 승 애 ​ Heart of Korea               About 1,000 years ago on the Korean peninsula, a Silla Dynasty aristocrat named Choi Chi Won found an inscription in ancient Korean hieroglyphics carved into a remote mountainside. Choi translated the inscription’s words into Chinese. The result, known as the Cheon Bu Kyung or “The Classic Text of Heavenly Meanings” has influenced the East Asian philosophical development of Taoism,  Confucianism and Buddhism. This is its ancient and timeless truth: Each person is the center of heaven and earth. Together as one; the mind, body and soul recognize this and create balance and harmony through love, the primal energy of the universe. Consisting of 81 Chinese characters positioned on a simple 9 by 9 grid or in landscape, the text of theCheon Bu Kyung is the foundation of artist Chang Seung Ae’s life and paintings. 살아가다 보면 끊임없이 크고 작은 문제들과 직면하게 된다. 아직 너무 미숙하고 불안정한 부분이 많기에 주변 영향에 쉽게 휘둘리며 동요하게 되고 그런 문제와 감정에만 빠져들게 된다. 그럴 때마다 이를 해소시키고 침착하게 스스로를 다독이며 나다움을 지킬 수 있게 해주는 심리적 방어기제로서의 역할을 할 수 있는 대상이 필요하다는 것을 느낀다. 나에게 그런 대상은 바로 자연이다. 특히 구름이 흘러가는 하늘, 파도치는 바다 같은 풍경은 어딘가에 정체되어 있지 않고 자유롭게 오고 가며 흘러가는 듯한 모습을 보인다. 이러한 모습 속에서 즐거움, 행복함, 편안함, 여유로움 그리고 위안 등 감정적으로 긍정적인 영향을 받으며 내 앞에 마주한 문제들 역시 잘 해결될 것이라는 희망을 갖게 된다. 이번 전시는 나의 시선에 들어온 자연(自然)의 장면들을 자유로운 형상으로 표현한 작품들로 구성된다. 표면에서 질감이 느껴질 수 있도록 물감을 두께감 있게 칠하여 작업한 작품들이 주를 이루고 있다. 정적이지 않은 화면 속 형상에 질감이 더해져 시각적으로 더 동적이게 느껴지는 효과를 의도하고 있으며, 비슷한 크기로 물감을 반복적이게 바르는 행위를 통해 자연에 의해 내면이 정화되는 순간들이 모여 보다 단단해진 나로 거듭나길 바라는 소망을 담고 있다. 이 전시는 사회 속에서 흔들리지 않고 나를 지킬 수 있는 대상에 대해 고민한 결과 자연을 통해 얻은 해답을 다루고 있다. 전시장에 머무는 잠시나마 답답하고 불편한 것들로부터 벗어나 심리적으로 환기할 수 있는 시간이 되길 희망한다. ■ 조 소 영
